Rainbow row is a several block of houses located right in the center of Charleston. They are one of the oldest constructions in the city, dating back to 1680. Some were rebuilt due to the damages from water and fire. Back in 18 th century the houses were located just on the water edge, right upon rhe reinforcement cith wall. Now they are located 3 blocks away from the water because of the landfills. The rainbow name comes from the beautiful pastel colors. The legend says that houses were painted different colors so that drunk sailors can easily find their way home !
