Día de los Reyes Magos en Madrid

Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain
1 Kudo
Christmas is a magical time of year almost anywhere you go, but in many places after New Year's the magic starts to fade. In Spain, its just getting started! Since they have Día de los Reyes Magos, or The Day of Three Kings. This year I finally stayed in Spain during my teaching holiday to experience it for myself. I went to Madrid after New Year's and I was able to witness the chaos of the shopping and preparation for the holiday! It was just as crazy as Black Friday in the United States! The streets were packed and their was a palpable tension in the air. I like to amble along the bumpy sidewalks in Spanish streets but in the center of Madrid it was almost impossible to relax and move slowly! During my stay I took a day trip to a smaller town outside the city called Aranjuez, and breathed a sigh of relief when I felt the Spanish tranquility that I am so accustomed to. The Christmas lights in the city were beautiful but I wasn't able to see the holiday parade! Unfortunately it rained and I wasn't up for standing in the street in the rain! Next time, I can only hope for better weather!
