The Culloden Battlefield is a historic battlefield where the Jacobite uprising came to an end in 1745. Today, this is a frequently visited site which starts in the visitors center which is loaded with information and artifacts from that era. After learning about the history of the battle, you walk outside to a path which has signs detailing the battle and the locations of the soldiers when this took place. There are stones with different clans names on them and a large monument as well. One of the things that I found most interesting is that parts of the battlefield were more like a bog in 1745. It is hard to imagine how difficult it would be to fight in those conditions. Although there were several people there, the battlefield was quiet which we appreciated considering all of the soldiers that lost their lives here.
This was the headquarters of Bonnie Prince Charlie during the battle and is a great place to stay prior to visiting the battlefield
