As an American, I am always interested in train travel around the world. It amazes me how something that is nearly nonexistent in the USA can be the main form of transport in so many countries around the world. Or at least the main public transport. The infrastructure, real estate, and manpower that has to go into the railway networks simply makes it unbelievably expensive stateside, and I always stop at crossroads like this to wonder at how, in these giant, most densely populated cities in the world, so much space is reserved for rails, stations, and changeover yards for trains.
