Continuing the Yucatan Roadtrip: Valladolid

Valladolid, Yuc., Mexico
0 Kudos
After wearing ourselves out at the Coba Archaeological Zone, we hit the road again, northbound toward Valladolid. Valladolid is a common base for exploring the surrounding area (including Chichen Itza). We did the same, but while we were in the city, we had plenty of other things to explore too! Our itinerary for Valladolid included Chichen Itza, Cenote Ik Kil, Ek Balam, Cenote X'Canche, some great food in the city, and plenty of walking up and down the colonial streets throughout the city. Valladolid isn't nearly as touristy as the Riviera Maya, and has a much more European feel then Cancun and Tulum combined.

Culture and experiences

Ek- Balam
Ek- Balam
Map is incorrect. Find Ek Balam north of Valladolid, very cool ruins site! Then cool off at Cenote X'Canche (also can't find this on Barclaycard's google maps for some reason...)
Cathedral of San Gervasio
Cathedral of San Gervasio
Beautiful cathedral in Valladolid, definitely evokes the colonial feel. Sorry about the sideways picture!
Ret. Convento de San Bernardino
Neat little convent in the city. Great to wander around, but watch out for the geese - they're a little territorial!

Points of interest

I don't think the correct place is showing up on the map, but check out the Mayapan Distillery for some hands on tequila just north of the city!

La Casona de Valladolid
La Casona de Valladolid
Great buffet style food. I think this is owned by one of the large tour operators in the area, so there are a ton of tourists - but if you need a good, quick meal (even if it's not super authentic)!
