Oberau is what I call a “pass through” town. It is right in the middle of the famous Benedictine Abbey in Oberammergau and the beautiful Garmisch- Partenkirchen in the Bavaria region of Germany. We drive through many times while visiting in May and never had reason to stop, until our last day as we were returning to our Garmisch hotel. We were slowed and waiting for a tractor when I looked to my right and noticed a dome and two steeples. All three houses of worship in the town are within one block of each other and all face each other. There was a paved parking area and the base of the Catholic Cathedral and a perfect photo op.
