Column of the Immaculate Conception

00187 Rome, Metropolitan City of Rome, Italy
17 Kudos
The Column of the Immaculate Conception can be found in Piazza Mignanelli, which is righ by the Piazza di Spagna. This column has been here since the nineteenth century and it is a large column topped by the Virgin Mary. Every year since the early 1950s, Pontiffs will visit this column and place a bouquet of flowers at the bottom to commemorate the feast of the Immaculate Conception. While you obviously see the Virgin Mary at the top of the column, there are also four statues at the bottom as well. If you are in the area to visit the Spanish Steps or just to relax in the Piazza, take a couple of minutes to view this column as well.
