The City of Rocks National Reserve is a fun place to visit if you have time to wander off the beaten path. Located in southern Idaho, the reserve was once a part of the Oregon Trail. Upon entering the reserve, you can't help but get an eerie feeling and you look at the strange rock mounds all around you. My 4 year old son decided they looked like big dinosaurs laying down. The rocks can be climbed with the proper equipment. There is camping available and many trails to hike. We hiked one that wandered through trees and around different rock formations. We saw small caves, a stream, and wildlife along the way.
