Charming Southern Summer Vacation

Charleston, SC, United States
0 Kudos
Flag
My family and I took a summer vacation to Charleston, South Carolina. I'm pleased to say that Charleston exceeded our expectations in every way. Everyone who I knows that has visited Charleston speaks highly of it, yet it was still a wonderful surprise. Friendly people, southern culture, and great food.If relaxing beaches are your thing, Charleston's got you covered. Black history and historic plantations? It's got it. Historic downtown district? Check. Food tours, carriage tours, ghost tours for fun? Yep. Or maybe shopping is more of your speed? It's got that too. This charming southern U.S. city offers everything you could imagine. And the city and the people have gone out of their way to ensure that the local community is welcoming and accommodating to tourists. We definitely have to return as we didn't get a change to see everything this time around.

Bars and nightlife

The Rarebit
The Rarebit
While in Charleston on vacation, I found The Rarebit on Yelp and saw that everyone raves about their happy hour and proclaims that they have the best Moscow Mule in Charleston. Well, I can happily say that their Moscow Mule is divine. Perfectly blended and refreshing, and the mug adds to its charm. I also had the chicken and waffles, which were great. The honey butter was a good compliment to the tasty waffle. And the chicken was seasoned just right. And the apple pie dessert, á la mode of course, was delicious. I'll definitely be back for another Moscow Mule next time I'm in Charleston!

Restaurants

DeRoma's Pizza
DeRoma's Pizza
Really good pizza, and friendly service. My family and I relied heavily on Deroma's while staying in Mount Pleasant for our Charleston vacation. It was our no hassle go-to restaurant for a quick meal.
Fleet Landing Restaurant & Bar
Fleet Landing Restaurant & Bar
A Lyft driver recommended this restaurant to me and my wife after we mentioned that we were interested in local Charleston seafood, and we're glad he did. The food is delicious and the setting is perfect. Gorgeous waterfront views while enjoying great seafood and drinks. Be warned, it does get crowded, but of course that's a good thing. :)
Peace Pie
Peace Pie
My wife and I were walking down the street in downtown Charleston and saw several people holding huge ice cream sandwiches. We kept walking, wondering where they purchased them, and lo and behold, we pass by the Peace Pie storefront. Ice cream sandwiches with pie fillings? Yes please! They have a huge selection of flavors and fillings. Delicious!
Boxcar Betty's
Boxcar Betty's
What can I say about Boxcar Betty's. They arguably have the best fried chicken sandwich that I've ever had--good flavor and juicy and moist. And their pickled fried green tomatoes? Phenomenal! The parking is tricky, but it's a small price to pay for this delicious food.
Jestine's Kitchen
Jestine's Kitchen
Jestine's Kitchen was the perfect charming find for a really good southern meal. I recommend the fried chicken, but the fried shrimp is also excellent.
Page's Okra Grill
Page's Okra Grill
Page's Okra Grill was my favorite restaurant that My family and visited in Charleston while on vacation. Love the atmosphere, and the place is always buzzing with people. We just missed breakfast, so we had to settle on lunch, and we weren't disappointed. The shrimp and grits are insanely good. I can't recommend them enough!! And the fried chicken is deliciously seasoned. As good as their appetizers and main dishes are, their desserts are what kept us coming back. We stopped by two more times before we left just to grab dessert to-go. Their key lime pie is incredible, their chocolate cake is phenomenal; moist and not overly rich. But their coconut cake was my absolute favorite! Moist with a perfect blend of coconut flavor and sweetness. Yum!! We'll definitely be back on our next trip to Charleston.
