Cedar Point - America's Rockin' Roller Coast

Sandusky, OH, United States
20 Kudos
It might sound crazy, but Cedar Point may in fact be my favorite place on Earth. I've been coming here since I was about 10 years old, and I've only missed a few summers since then. If you love roller coasters and thrill rides, this is absolutely the place for you.

Cedar Point is located in the middle of nowhere Ohio, about an hour west of Cleveland and two hours southeast of Detroit. Don't let the location stop you from making the trek.

Cedar Point boasts an impressive riser of roller coasters, including:
- Millennium Force: the best roller coaster in the park and the best steel roller coaster I've ever been on
- Top Thrill Dragster: a quick ride, but nothing beats the launch
- Maverick: great ride with more than a 90-degree first drop
- Magnum: by now this is old and the ride isn't smooth, but it is a classic steel coaster
- Gatekeeper: one of the newer rides; a winged coaster
- Wicked Twister: launches you up two towers as you race back and forth in and out of the station
- Power Tower: two different types to choose from - shoot up or drop down
- Gemini: old wooden coaster with dueling tracks

These are just a few of the rides that Cedar Point has to offer. If you aren't into the major thrill rides, there are family rides and a kiddie section.

A tip to those that go: consider investing in the fast pass. It is very pricey (at least $75 per person in addition to the entrance fee), but it can significantly cut down your wait time. We bought it last time we went and didn't wait longer than 15-20 minutes for any rides. When the lines for the bigger rides are over 2 hours, you can't get many rides in. This lets you enjoy more of the rides and wait less in line.

Also, be prepared to be GOUGED for food. A chicken finger combo basket is $15.29. We avoid this by bringing packed sandwiches in a cooler and taking a break at lunchtime to go out to the car and eat. You'll save a fortune doing this instead of eating at the concession stands.

The location, right on Lake Erie, is amazing. I can't say enough good things about this park (except for the food prices).
