Cathedral of Barcelona

Barcelona, CT, Spain
23 Kudos
The Cathedral of Barcelona is amazingly beautiful! It is hard to miss as you walk into the area (get off at metro stop Jaume I on line 4). First you will notice the beautiful exterior and fight your way around the crowds to get your picture. Then you should definitely pay to get inside. It was 7 euro for adults and children were free. The interior is stunning! We spent a crazy amount of time sitting in awe and walking around the inside. Besides the beauty, you will also find the crypt of Saint Eulalia. Once you exit the cathedral on the right side, facing the alter, you will find yourself in the courtyard. Here you will find geese that live here and are descendants of the geese that came here originally hundreds of years ago. You will also find marks left behind by the people who built the church, showing their trade. There is a shop and bathrooms out here as well (paid, .50 euro).

I highly recommend that you add this to your itinerary if you are going to Barcelona. It's about a ten minute walk away from La Rambla.

Points of interest

Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi
Another beautiful basilica to visit while you are in the area.
La Rambla
Look for the sign from the cathedral (to your right as you face it) that points you to la rambla. It's about a ten minute walk, give or take.
Plaça del Rei
This plaza is also in the gothic area. It's absolutely beautiful
Plaça de Sant Felip Neri
This small plaza is a quiet place to rest and it has a museum.
Bishop's Bridge
Look for the Bishop's bridge in the gothic quarter of Barcelona, not far from the cathedral.
Plaça Nova
This plaza is just outside of the cathedral. Look for the letters showing what the Romans used to call Barcelona. There is also a scribbled artwork on a building that is a copy of a work by Pablo Picasso.
Pla de la Seu
This courtyard area is where you will find the cathedral.
