We recently visited the famous Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles in the Bavarian Alps region of Germany and my goodness were there a ton of tourists! We were here about 30 years ago and were able to walk right up to the gates and purchase necessary tickets. Now there are several levels of parking, one main and at least one satellite ticket office with long queues, and a separate contracted shuttle bus service with their own ticket office building and long que. We didn’t realize we could have purchased online, but things still worked out. We decided to take the bus round trip to Neuschwanstein and were SO glad we did. It is a very long and steep climb. They seem to do a good job of keeping us moving in and out of this popular tourist attraction, but be prepared for lines, waiting and dozens of buses filled with thousands of tourists all trying to get to the same place in the same window of time.
