I am not a beach person. I'll say it up front. It's sacrilegious to say as a North Carolinian, but I don't like baking under the sun or the gritty, hot sand under my feet. Shuddering at the thought right now. However... it's possible that I just never had the RIGHT beach or the FANCIEST accommodations to make me into a beach person. Enter the JW Marriott in Cancun. The whole reason I went to Mexico was not for the beaches, but for the ruins. The Chichen Itzas. The Palenques. But hey... who can turn a luxurious stay with this gorgeous blue water just outside your balcony? I loved being catered to for the scant few days there, and though I didn't go to the beach, I went to the infinity pool and gazed at it from my climate-controlled perch and shimmering tiles. What a view!
