When you are around sun, water, sand and mangroves, you know that you will be able to get some great birding done. We like to see the big bird that are associated with the water and we have a great book of Florida birds to ensure that we are correctly identifying the birds that we find. We had the best luck on the side with the wildlife preserve, with the beach side only producing such finds as pelicans and seagulls. The waking and biking trails helped us find some great birds because there weren't a lot of people there to scare them away. I definitely recommend going to the quieter side of the island if you like to bird watch.
