Arriving in Egypt and in particular, the Giza Plateau on which the Pyramids stand and the Sphynx is just a short hop away, was very different in some ways than I had expected. Firstly, there were a lot of people. Of course, when we see these places online they are devoid of people, or even the city located right next to the plateau. The city is very, very close and when standing next to the pyramids, the city is what you see if you’re not looking up at the pinnacle. With the breeze blowing fairly consistently, specifically up on the plateau – the highest area around – the air took on an ethereal quality with the morning sun shining through at an unusual angle.
