There are lots of short walking trails you can take in the Badlands National Park. In fact, visiting the Badlands is complete without walking on some of these trails. While it is quite safe to walk on boardwalk and gravel trails, it is not without risk, so care must be taken. One of the large sign posts that we saw is "beware of rattlesnake" sign. I am not a fan of any serpents. I have even fear of rattlesnakes. We were careful and had no sign of rattlesnakes whatsoever, it is advised that one must wear closed-toed shoes just in case. Also, rattlesnakes stay in cool shades, so they may stay under the boardwalk or stairs or tall grasses.
