The night before my flight from Saint-Denis, La Reunion, to Antananarivo, I got a text from Air Austral saying it would be delayed by eight hours. I was making a connection onto that flight, and on arrival in Saint-Denis I went go the airline office to ask questions about my boarding pass and checked bag. To my surprise they put me up in a local hotel for day use, complete with complimentary lunch and round trip taxi. But the hotel restaurant does not serve lunch, so they solved that by ordering out a pizza for me. Apparently Air Austral mismanaged its fleet so that no aircraft was available, but at least they handled better than many airlines would. And I expect EU 261 compensation since La Reunion is part of France.
