In addition to having a gander at the Goondocks and geeking out about Goonies, we were able to explore a little bit of Astoria as we worked our way up the coastline on our way to Washington. Not just for film buffs, Astoria has a good bit more to offer, and is a nice little town to walk around. The Astoria-Megler Bridge, connecting Oregon to Washington, is beautifully constructed and a sight to behold. The town also has plentiful shops, restaurants and a fair number of museums. As another bonus, while getting gas, we heard the barks from a sea lion community that had taken over a old fishing dock, so we worked our way down to have a visit. This was a bit of a rushed trip through Astoria, but will make a point to stay a little longer next time I go through.
