Nearly every year, my sisters and I venture out to the arts festivals in State College, PA. Every July, the area hosts two amazing arts festivals. The People's Choice Festival is held in the town of Boalsburg. Parking is easy (you park in one of the adjacent fields), and typically costs $5. Vendors/artisans have beautiful work across various mediums including pottery, metal sculpture, jewelry, woodworking, oil paintings, screen printing techniques, and many other unique and spectacular techniques that I couldn't describe. There are also local wineries present with tastings, and tons of food vendors (I recommend the savory crepes.....delicious!). Over on the Penn State campus, the PSU arts festivals runs during the same weekend. So you can hit two festivals in one day (if you have the stamina to walk and shop that long). Parking at the campus Festival is usually in one of the stadium lots, and they run shuttles in to town all day long. So it's very convenient. Prices are higher on campus than in Boalsburg, but you see some very interesting items. Lots of food there too, and....there's a PSU Creamery stand. Don't miss their homemade ice cream! I also recommend checking out the sand sculptures.
