During our ride on the Waikiki Trolley Green Line we made a photo stop at the Amelia Earhart Lookout. This is such a beautiful lookout with the views of the dark blue Pacific Ocean, Diamond Head and the Kuilei Cliffs, the beaches below and the surfers on the water. They placed the Amelia Earhart Memorial at this location as a symbol of the people who were watching for her over the ocean after she disappeared. They were hoping they would see her plane approach the island. In 1934, Amelia Earhart was the first person to fly solo from Wheeler AFB on Oahu to Oakland, California. The flight took her 18 hours to complete. She had already earned fame from her famous flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932. This is a fitting location to remember her accomplishments. This lookout is only a short drive outside of Waikiki on Diamond Head Road.
