All aboard! Riding the 'rails' (bullet train) from Tokyo to Kyoto, Japan

Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan

I had not ridden a train years, and the last one was NOT a pleasant overnight journey in Thailand, thus I was apprehensive about this one.

Boy was I wrong!

The famous 'bullet train' (I took the older, Shinkansen) runs from Tokyo's Downtown station to Kyoto in about 3.5 hours including a few stops along the way. And what a pleasure it was!

Smooth, quiet, efficient, and clean. A wonderful way to cross the country with refreshments offered (coffee, tea, so on) at reasonable prices.

I highly recommend as it's a wonderful, relaxing way to see the country AND get to a new city.

Tokyo Station
The main hub station for trains throughout Japan. Recommend researching the train lines BEFORE going as many signs are not in English.
