Ocean cruising is a great experience. The ships, including the "smaller" ones, are floating cities that will keep you entertained even if you never get off at any of the ports.
But if you enjoy TRAVELING, not only is cruising a convenient and comfortable way to see the world, but the many itineraries offer a broad range of alternatives to satisfy most interests.
Alaska is a particularly scenic cruise. Choose your itinerary carefully so that you include the important ports along the way, and make sure that your ship sails leisurely through Glacier Bay, a spectacular experience.
Before cruising to Alaska, I highly recommend that you read James Michener's "Alaska". Michener will give you a most interesting perspective on the area's history (Russia sold it to the US).
