The east side of the Hawaii's Big Island is full of lush landscapes and big waterfalls. We saw one of the biggest on the island, Akaka Falls, which makes a stunning 420 foot drop. You drive up and up to the falls and when we got there we saw people pulled over on the side of the road, so we did too. We realized why in a minute -- it costs $5 to park in the actual parking lot so I guess people were in Hawaii without $5 to spend! It cost $1 to enter the walking trails -- but it was well worth it. The short hike was beautiful and the falls were stunning.
