A twice a year festival

Takayama, Gifu, Japan
16 Kudos
We stayed a total of three nights in this incredible town, our hotel was located in the newer part but within walking distance of old town. The old town is why people come here besides a big festival that is held twice a year. Unfortunately, we just missed it by two weeks. The festival goes back to at least the mid-1600s, similar to the age of old town. It is held to celebrate spring and fall, and it features ornate floats and puppet shows. Locals wear costumes to represent the old times. It must be spectacular. For those who missed the festival (like we did), there is a small museum that showcases some of the floats. Awesome!
