Awaiting friends to arrive at the meeting point, my better half and I were walking around and exploring the area surrounding the main Ranger Station of Hickory Run State Park (in Pennsylvania, the Poconos). The skies were overcast, and the air humid. The Ranger Station was set very near the road and we were so early in the morning that there was little traffic but construction vehicles and a few cars. As I approached the porch of the building, I could see a swarm of eight or nine (I counted!) hummingbirds thronging two sugar water stations. I have never seen so many at one time, or willing to hang out and feed. Fantastic wildlife!
