Outside of Falmouth, Massachusetts proper is a smaller town - Woods Hole. A center of marine research and education, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute is internationally renowned - and well deserved. The tiny village itself is a short walk, with bodies of water, a coffee house and lots of offices. Given the age of this and other town here along the New England Coast, this doorway had chains barring entry. I have to say, not only attractive, but very clever given how authentic the region is to its history and marine / nautical beginnings. I definitely recommend visiting - but perhaps stick to warmer months when things are open - but not too warm, or it will be too crowded!
