There were several places that I wanted to hike in Hawaii and Koko Head Crater was on the top of our list. Koko Head Railway Trail leads up to an old WWII Air Force Radar Station built in the 1940s. It's a relatively short hike at about 1.5 miles round trip, 1048 steps, and a 1200 ft elevation. Beware! It is not the same as a StairMaster! Steps are unevenly spaced, the incline varies, and there's a blazing sun! As you go up, on the right side of the tracks, there are numbers painted every 100 or 200 steps as a milestone of how far up you are. About halfway up the stairs you'll run into a bridge with gaps in between that you can fall in. A short hike but demands great endurance.
