After Venice, next on our “Italy Sampler” trip was Lake Como, where we had two nights. We had looked at various towns that were near the city of Como, and we fell in love with a little place in Blevio, about 10 minutes outside of Como. Our hosts were kind enough to pick us up at the train station to take us to our apartment. The town of Blevio is very small, and is located on a steep uphill from the lake. There are only small rocky walkways between the buildings, and that is part of its charm. Our apartment featured original stone walls and wooden ceiling/beams. The owners restored it beautifully with modern and rustic touches. There was also an outdoor terrace, though it was separate from the apartment, just a few minutes walk up quite a few stairs, which gave it a beautiful view of the lake. It was perfect to have a glass of wine up there and just take in the views. There is only one restaurant in Como, and that is Momi. Anna, our host, was able to get us a reservation one of the nights. She told us ahead of time “it’s a 10 minute walk down to Momi, and a 20 minute walk back up” due to the steep incline of the town. Momi was on the water so going down the steps to get to it was easy, coming back up however was another story - especially after a huge meal - haha! It was very much worth it though, as Momi was a fantastic restaurant and all the staff were great. We even met Momi himself, the chef. I chose a surprise 4 course menu, where you get 4 courses for significantly cheaper than if you chose 4 separate courses, however the catch being that you don’t get to choose which items you get. The chef literally just serves you whatever he wants. (They did allow me to say no anchovies and no liver though so you can have a small say in what you get!) Everything we had was delicious, and the views and sunset out over the lake from our table on the terrace were gorgeous.
