If you are in Paris for any length of time, I recommend you EAT everything you can!!! I will remember my 48 hrs of culinary delights in Paris for a lifetime. And I’m not just talking about going out to nice restaurants for fancy meals. The Parisian standard of excellence transcends all dining experiences. Now lets talk itinerary!
The most efficient way to get between the touristy sites of Paris is the hop on - hop off tour. However, these tours can be slightly unpredictable. On the day that we did rode we had two buses randomly stop service, our bus driver skipped some of the main sites to avoid traffic around the Louvre, and the audio guide kept lagging or being overridden by instrumental french music. But it was so fun to ride carefree around the city seeing all the beautiful architecture and traveling from site to site.If you opt to take the metro from site to site, be sure to stock up on plenty of one way tickets. From what I could tell, when you change zones you need to use a fresh ticket and there isn’t always a ticket kiosk to buy a additional passes.
Some of the non-edible highlights of the trip were seeing the Eiffel tower not once, but twice! During the day we went to the tower and climbed up the the second level. From the second level you can wait for a tiny elevator to take you to the top, but the second level is honestly sufficient. Any higher and the city sites would be too small to appreciate.
Later that evening we also went at night to see the tower not only lit up but sparking at the stroke of midnight. It was a really magical moment that you MUST experience. It was also cool to see Notre Dame at dusk. The church looks nice during the day, there was a small window of time before the sun completely set and the church was lit up beautifully.
And lastly, to really get a feel for enchanting Paris, I recommend the Rue De Cler. This little street is just a short walk or bus ride from the Eiffel tower and has excellent small shops and places to eat.We had a wonderful lunch at Cafe Du Marche and then got the best crepes I’ve ever had had from a man with a crepe cart!
If you only have a day or two in Paris like I did, just prioritize what you want to see the most! Being such a popular tourist destination you will have to factor in extra time for sites and attractions due to lines. Hopefully someday I will be able to go back and see the Louvre!
