I like geographical oddities. Even when I was a kid I studied maps and dreamed of travels. American Samoa and the independent country of Samoa are very close together - a short ferry ride or even shorter flight. Yet they are always 24 hours apart. I think this is the only flight across the International Date Line that involves a date change, but not a time change. This is because Samoa asked to move the line east of it so the country could share a workweek with its main trade and tourism partners, New Zealand and Australia. American Samoa lines up with the U.S. So the Samoans share a culture, a language, and a religion; but never share a day on the calendar. It was a short flight of 22 minutes and a full day later on arrival.
