No matter your reasons for exploring, there's a wide array of travel apps available to enhance all aspects of your adventures. Here are some of the best apps for both Android and iOS.

Skyscanner: The first step to planning the perfect trip is to get the best deals on flights, hotels and car rentals—and this app has you covered for all three. The simple-to-use interface will also display the cheapest days or months to travel to your selected destination. If you're feeling indecisive, there's a Top Deals category that shows the best bargains from your nearest airport.

LoungeBuddy: Airport lounges are a great way to pass the time between flights, and this handy airport aid takes the hassle out of finding the right one. It tells you the location, potential fees and amenities of lounges in over 900 airports worldwide. It also includes photos, tips and reviews from other users.

TripIt®: Consider TripIt your personal, pocket-sized travel assistant. This app will create a master trip itinerary based on your confirmation emails for things like flights, rental cars, entertainment bookings and hotels. It will send your schedule to selected contacts and sync details with your calendar.

PackPoint: Packing is an art form and this app transforms even a luggage Luddite into a master suitcase-stuffer. Based on your length of stay, whether your trip is for business or pleasure and any planned activities, this app will provide a list of packing essentials that take into account the weather, if you're willing to re-wear clothing, and more.

Google Translate: Don't let a language barrier slow you down. This app will quickly translate text into over 100 languages. Users can even hold up their cell phone camera to a sign or menu and the app will translate it into your chosen language. In conversation mode, Google Translate will instantly translate a two-way conversation in up to 32 languages.

FourSquare City Guide: This app allows you tap into the first-hand experiences of travelers and locals at your destination. It's a wonderful way to get up-to-date recommendations about what to see, and where to eat or stay. It's also a treasure trove of valuable tips, like Wi-Fi hot spots, favorite menu items and pop-up restaurants.

LiveTrekker: With this app, you don't have to wait until you get home to share the details of your travel adventures with friends and family. It keeps a detailed record of your journey, complete with maps, geo-tagged photos, videos and more that you can stream live or upload later. It's also a wonderful way to create a private travel journal filled with your favorite memories.

HERE WeGo: When you're exploring a new city, few things are more essential than reliable information about how to get around. This app provides access to comprehensive maps on over a thousand cities worldwide and they’re available offline so you don't have to worry about access to Wi-Fi. It also features information on local public transportation, taxis and up-to-the-minute traffic updates for drivers.

I can't imagine a "Top Travel Apps List" that doesn't included TripAdvisor.
TripAdvisor will give you trustworthy reviews of almost anything you want to visit, eat, or sleep at. We have travelled to Europe, South Pacific, Hawaii, and throughout the US, and rely on TripAdvisor to keep us informed.

One of the best features of Skyscanner is that you can put in dates and it will give you a list of places to go from the cheapest to the most expensive during that time period. All you have to do is type "Everywhere" in the destination section.
