Introducing “Best of”!

Community Manager

Some of you may have noticed a new feature which was added to the community recently called "Best of". While we gave you a brief introduction to ”Best of” in a previous blog, we wanted to take the time to dive in to this exciting new addition to our community.

What exactly IS "Best of"?

Put simply, "Best of" is a categorization of top notch Travel Stories. Travel Stories are organized into Themes such as "Paris" or "Alaskan Cruises". A Travel Story can  be added to more than one Theme. For example, a Travel Story about fine dining in Paris can be added to Themes like "Paris", "Europe", "Fine Dining", etc. Each Theme contains multiple lists with related Travel Stories.

Who selects “Best of” Stories?

The Barclaycard Travel Community Managers, Jared, Jen and myself, select the stories to be featured in "Best of". That's not to say we won't accept your suggestions on stories you think should be included though.

Why was “Best of” created?
Probably the biggest question on everyone's mind! We wanted to recognize quality content and contributing Community Members. From time to time we may add a Contest element to allow Community Members to select “Best of” Themes (please see our full Terms & Conditions here) which gives us an opportunity to reward users who have created quality Travel Stories.

How are stories selected?
We look at stories as they come in, as well as search through the Community to find travel tales we think will delight, inform, or inspire you. Factors which are considered when it comes to selecting a Travel Story for "Best of" include, but are not limited to, any one or more of the following:

  • Quality of photography: We consider images which are original, clear, well-composed and/or representative of the Travel Story itself.

  • Quality of writing: This is something we examine on both the Travel Story and Detail level. We look for original, informative Travel Stories and Details which would provide value, education or inspiration for our Community.
  • Category and Theme: Finally, Categories and Themes which exist in the Community, or which we are planning, play a part in our consideration of Travel Stories. For example, if we are planning stories about Paris, France in the future, we will logically be considering stories which we feel best represent that Theme.

So, where can you find "Best of"?
The "Best of" link is located in the top navigation of the Community. You can also access it by clicking on a Travel Story with the "Best of" flag on the top left corner of the image.

Do you have a suggestion for a “Best of” Theme? Any Travel Stories you’ve seen recently that you thought were truly top notch? Let us know in the comments below!

I've been thinking about this. Some ideas for seasonal Best Of would include summer road trips, Fourth Of July and 3 day weekend trips.

Some ideas for more permanent Best Of subjects would include National Parks Stories, Family Stories (and the other badges), & Continent (top 10-15 of all the various countries)

I was thrilled to have two of my stories be selected for "Best Of" out the gate. It would be cool to have a 100 mile or 200 mile perk when you have one selected for "Best Of".....would definitely push me to make my submitted writing, details, and photography better.

I am not clear how to submit. Does it require any special type of submission or do I submit as usually.

@kubusiek - You can post a story (we'll be looking at stories within the community) or share a link in the comments on this blog.

I had a terrible time editing my post, especially with making paragraphs. It was fine with a change #1 but when I came back to make change #2 it would make change to my original version only. There is no step by step editing. Either you do it right with one shot or start over. I see that I could make more changes but I would probably mess up somewhere else and do it over. I got tired of it. Why it is going back to original version instead of last version?

During the contest period I will be traveling throughout Europe. Are there instructions posted as to where to submit the story and pictures?

I've spent 15 minutes looking through your pages about "Best of" but still can't find one of the most important Q&A's....how do I submit a story???
Stately Explorer
You submit a story on the main page. If it fits a best of topic and is of a certain quality, they will select it.

@haymorsd & @KickstandCompan - as @stevesoffers mentioned, you simply click the "post your story" button next to "search stories" (under the rotating hero banner) to get started.

@kubusiek @h-and-c thank you for your submissions; I've added them to our Community Manager review queue.

I'd like to throw this story into consideration for Best of Vegas.

Hi @fortis420 - thanks for sharing! We added the story to our Best of category for Priceless Cities: Toronto! You can find that here: http://www.barclaycardtravel.com/t5/Best-of-Themes/Priceless-Cities/bc-p/1943268#M649

Thank you @Kati_D , I really appreciate it!

I've also done 5 stories within Dominican Republic. I believe it would be a good destination to go to and highlight, especially since Punta Cana and Puerto Plata are highlights of tourist central with the all inclusive resorts.

Iceland has been the "it" place to go all of a sudden--and now I know why! It was incredibly beautiful and I can't wait to go back. I've uploaded some of the gorgeous scenery on my story about our campervan excursion around Iceland. Traveling by campervan was such a neat way to experience the country and we found some great travel deals, so hopefully that inspires others to get to this relatively accessible "remote" location!

Additionally, I just realized--one of my early posts is one of the most viewed and "kudos-ed" (I think I just made that word up!), if that makes it eligible :)

Thanks @CaitBuss - you're right! These both belong in the "Best of" category! We'll update those soon! In the meantime, we've sent some kudos your way!
