How Your Participation Miles are updated on the Travel Community

We’ve had a lot of inquiries regarding Participation Miles so we wanted to follow up with more information.  Jared wrote a great blog introducing the concept, Earning Participation Miles on the Barclaycard Travel Community. It seems from the Participation Miles for the Barclaycard Travel Community discussion threads  you have additional questions about the Participation Miles update process. So, hopefully this blog will help to answer them.

 

You can earn Participation Miles for the following community activities:

  • Completing your Travel Profile
  • Posting  a Travel story with 100 words and at least one, unique image. Updated 10/28/2015
  • Adding a travel detail to a travel story using the map
  • Receiving a kudos on your travel story
  • Note: As of 4/11/2014 up to five (5) travel stories can be posted for an individual City, State, Country.
  • Note: As of 4/17/2015, up to one hundred (100) travel stories can be posted by a user per month.

How Your Participation Miles are updated on the Travel Community:

Participation Miles are updated every day for the previous day’s activity. The miles are totaled at midnight and added to “Your lifetime community miles” the next day. “Your lifetime community miles” total can be accessed on your Travel Profile (click on your name in the upper right corner). Please note: this is a cumulative total of all your community activity to date.

Currently, we do not offer an individual breakdown for daily or monthly totals in this area. We are looking to improve this experience and provide a better snapshot of your Participation Miles totals in the future. We will be implementing a daily alert email that will notify you of the Participation Miles you earned the previous day. We hope that this daily email will help clarify the activities that are earning you Participation Miles.

 

How your Participation Miles are transferred to your Barclaycard Arrival™ account:

In order for your Participation Miles to transfer to your Barclaycard Arrival™ MasterCard® account so that you can redeem them for travel rewards, you must link your credit card account and community profile. Click here for linking instructions. Participation Miles are calculated on the first of every month for the previous month’s activity. You will be able to see that your Participation Miles have been added to your “Miles total” on the 1st of every month. If the 1st of the month, falls on a Saturday or Sunday, your miles will post on the first Tuesday of the month.

Participation Miles are not itemized in the online Account Summary.

You can view an itemization of your Participation Miles on your monthly statements. Please remember that your Participation Miles are calculated for the statement monthly while your statement will cross multiple months.

How your Participation Miles are redeemed if you do not have a Barclaycard Arrival account:

If you are a non-cardmember, the miles you earn will be automatically redeemed for an eGiftcard from a list of four major retailers, subject to change at any time without notice.  You will receive an email, prior to your eGiftcard being sent, allowing you to choose one of the four options.

 

Note: If you are a Barclaycard Arrival cardmember and have not linked your account and earn over 2,500 Participation Miles, the miles you earn will be automatically redeemed for an eGiftcard from a list of four major retailers, subject to change at any time without notice.  You will receive an email, prior to your eGiftcard being sent, allowing you to choose one of the four options.

Hello -- I read this and I have 6550 miles, and have had this account for over 1 month, and the first of the month passed. I've linked my account twice, and still my miles haven't transferred. Can you verify? Thanks!

Hi @melfish, Our records indicate that your earned miles were awarded on Februrary 2nd and the March 4th transfer. Both transfers equal the 6,550 you have indicated. You can view your Participation Miles as a line item on your Statement (as shown above). Participation Miles are added to your total Miles in your online account (and are not represented in a different line item, we are working to improve this capability). I was excited to write two travel stories yesterday, but I must have done something wrong because I wasn't awarded any points today. Are the only requirements a picture and 50 words?

@savedough The file that updates your miles daily will typically run around 11AM EST everyday. You will probably see your points later on today. Let me know if you still don't see the update this afternoon. Thank you! And, welcome to the community! :)

Hi! I added my travel profile 2 days ago and have since written 11 (or 12?) stories about my travel experiences. I have now waited 2 days to see any activity accumulating in my lifetime participation miles but haven't seen any sort of update. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Hi @awright Just following up on your post. Typically the miles are updated daily to your Travel Profile by 11AM EST the following day. Please let me know if your Lifetime Miles hasn't updated yet. Thank you!

Thanks @JenniferH - I asked a question over on Jared's blog but you seem to have answered it here in terms of seeing where my miles post to my account. I was looking in the awards activity but I see that I need to see the monthly statements.
Second question though, seems a couple of us have gotten emails today giving us 0 miles for posts and kudos - mine "Congratulations you've earned miles" email listed 23 stories and 4 kudos but said 0 miles have posted. Thanks

Hi Everyone,
As of 4/17/2014, the "Lifetime Participation Miles" have not been updated. We have identified the issues and rest assured all activity is being tracked on the back end. As soon as this issue is fixed, we will provide an update. There is a Discussion Thread in the Barclaycard Travel Community Board that has a "Known Issues" area for future updates.

Hi @Zaratx - Thanks for your question! It appears your travel profile is complete! Miles will update daily for the previous day's activity. You should see your miles total update tomorrow.

Hi @JenniferH, are 100 participation miles on travel community equivalent to 100 miles on a Barclays card account when transferred (i.e. is the transfer ratio 1:1)?

Hi @honeybelle and @worldexplorergi - Our daily file has been experiencing a day or two lag. Please let me know if your Lifetime Participation Miles hasn't updated by end of day Tuesday. Thank you! (We update the Discussion Thread: Known Issues with details on when there are specific technical problems with the daily file.)

I just noticed this morning that one of my travel stories from October 18 is missing. I noticed a few days ago that the the travel details from that story were missing also. I thought maybe I was just mistaken about entering them. The story on Roswell NM was there yesterday and I have posted stories since. I can't find anything about stories being removed.
