7 Benefits of Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite Status You MUST Try

Community Manager

We're taking a deeper look at some of the features and benefits that come with your Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard®. It was one of the most requested card features when we started rolling it out last year, and with good reason - it's kind of awesome. These seven world elite benefits will help you  make your travel plans even more valuable:

Travel Planning Assistance
When it comes to planning a relaxing vacation, why stress out trying to plan it all yourself? Take a vacation from vacation planning and start with an experienced MasterCard travel advisor. They're a terrific resource to help you select, set, and reserve your vacation—no matter the destination. The best part? They're available when you are. Early morning.  Late night. Doesn't matter! Give them a call at 855.802.1387, 24/7/365.

Price Protection
You've stocked up on all the sunscreen and picked out the perfect beach gear... only to find it all on sale the following month. Lucky for you, should you find a lower price for a new item within 60 days from the date of purchase using your eligible MasterCard, you may be reimbursed for the price difference.

Hotel Benefits
World Elite status grants you access to the Luxury Hotels & Resorts portfolio and a host of amenities. For example, booking a stay at the Ohla Hotel in Barcelona, Spain as a World Elite cardmember now through December 21, 2015 also entitles you to:

  • Complimentary breakfast for two daily
  • Upgrade at time of arrival (subject to availability)
  • Early check-in (subject to availability)
  • Late check-out (subject to availability)
  • A complimentary bottle of wine, fresh fruit and chocolates or dessert per stay

Airfare Benefits and Savings
Upgrades and discounts on select airlines are also available.
Planning a trip to Europe? One of the world's largest and most prestigious airlines, Lufthansa, offers World Elite cardmembers the following benefits on travel originating from and ticketed in the USA:

  • Up to a 15% savings on qualifying First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class fare
  • OR a Business Class upgrade with the purchase of a qualifying Economy Class fare

Rental Car Savings
Spend the money on the vacation, not the vehicle.
One of the World Elite rental benefits available, for example, is with Avis. In addition to 20% savings on each rental, World Elite cardmembers are also entitled to a complimentary Avis Preferred Plus® membership. That means you also receive complimentary upgrades (whenever available), exclusive offers and specialized customer service only for Avis Preferred Plus® members.

Trip Cancellation Insurance
The only thing worse than having your trip cancelled is having your trip cancelled AND getting stuck with the bill. World Elite status offers complimentary trip cancellation insurance, which provides reimbursement for you and your family for any nonrefundable cancellation or change fee if your trip is interrupted or canceled and you have purchased your common carrier tickets with your Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite MasterCard. The added security is a great feature, though it's one you hopefully won't need.

Concierge Service
Have your trip already planned, but you need a little help making it truly extraordinary? MasterCard’s concierge service can help with everything from dinner reservations or event tickets to locating hard-to-find items or buying and delivering gifts. They can assist you with what you need, when you need it, saving you time and sanity. Plus, like the Personalized Travel Assistance, they're there for you 24/7.

Hi Kati,
I am very interested in the airfare benefits (i.e.; 15% discount on airfare or upgrade from economy to business class on Lufthansa) since I am considering a trip to Germany in May. However, I spoke to two different people in the Concierge service and one in the Benefits area at Barclays and no one could tell me how to access this benefit. One person in the Concierge service said I needed to contact Lufthansa directly. However when I called Lufthansa neither the reservation agent or her supervisor new anything about such a benefit. Can you help?

I would like to find out how to benefit from this as well.

I have used the Concierge Services before attempting to locate "hard-to-find-items" which they have failed to do, yet locals were able to find the items for me, go figure.

Hi Kati. I entered the contest that ends Sunday regarding my special trip. I mistakenly checked the "yes" box for having an Arrival World Elite card, when in fact I have a Barclays Rewards card. After I read the official rules, I realized that I entered in the wrong category; I wanted to be considered for the non-cardmember prize of a trip to NYC or Napa and NOT the one for cardmembers to the Grammys. I've contacted Customer Care by email and phone, but I don't think they are able to take the appropriate action and re-categorize my entry. I hope you can help with this, because I believe the judging will be done shortly. Thanks, Howard Groopman, Portland, OR.

The travel insurance is really not that beneficial. I had opted to not purchase my usual travel insurance on a short trip and figured I'd be ablr to utilize the travel insurance with the Barclay card. When it came down to my flight being canceled by the airline, the travel insurance representatives were not easy to reach nor readily available to assist. When I finally reached someone they basically told me the plan would not offer me assistance to book a new flight or reimburse me for the expense of a new ticket since the other airline canceled the flight. Since then, I went back to purchasing regular travel insurance. The coverages are much better along with the peace of mind of people I can rely on for assistance when needed most.

My husband and I recently traveled to Maui. I called the concierge to try to utilize some of these benefits and discovered that these so called benefits, really are nonexistent. When I asked about airline, hotel, and restaurant perks, there were none. As far as "making our trip extraordinary" having this card gave us no extra perks or benefits.

Hi @oliver033 & @sunobsessed: Thanks so much for your feedback. I will pass that along to the team at MasterCard.

Hi @Bibi808: Thank you for sharing your experience with the Travel Insurance. This is very helpful feedback. To be clear, the flight was cancelled by the airline and not yourself? Let me know and I will also pass this along to the folks at MasterCard.

The "hard to find item" was Old Spice Deodorant in Sweden and later in Russia, as an FYI for more information. Sweden was in fact particularly difficult but existed, Russia the local said its not uncommon. I should also add that I made the same request with he Visa concierge, which provides a similar service, and they also failed.

Hrm... that is very interesting since it is a fairly common brand. Good feedback! @oliver033
