5 Galentine's Getaways: Valentine's Day Trips to Take With Your Girlfriends

Guest Blogger

Push your conventional Valentine’s Day plans aside and cue up an unforgettable celebration of your lovely lady crew. If you’re a Parks and Recreation fan, then you’re no stranger to the lighthearted fictional holiday, Galentine’s Day, which celebrates friendships between women. Galentine’s Day continues to gain popularity with gal pals around the globe.

No matter how you celebrate, you’ll want to consider a few destination options for a truly memorable Galentine’s Getaway.

Indulge in New Orleans

N’awlins has it all when it comes to girls’ getaway destinations: Great food, great music, great shopping, and a lively bar scene (if that's your thing). Winter is also much more bearable in NOLA than the summer months –  meaning you can comfortably walk around all parts of the city.

Your getaway might include coffee and beignets at  Café du Monde, shopping the boutiques on Magazine Street, taking a carriage ride around the French Quarter, going for brunch at Commander's Palace, having drinks at the rotating Carousel Bar & Lounge, and listening to live jazz on Frenchmen Street.

Enjoy Southern Charm in Savannah, GA

Another southern city that makes for a great girlfriend’s getaway is Savannah, Georgia. It has a tasty food scene, historic squares, and beautiful parks.

You and your friends can take a trolley tour to see the city's famous squares, view the house of Juliette Gordon Low (where the founder of the Girl Scouts was born), take a stroll through Forsyth Park, enjoy a family-style meal at Mrs. Wilke’s Dining Room, and go on a spooky ghost tour, if you're brave enough.

Head to Wine Country

If sipping a perfect glass of wine is more your style, there are plenty of options for a fun Galentine's trip to wine country. You can consider the famous Napa Valley or Sonoma in California, but don't discount some of the other great wine regions in the U.S.

For example, the Finger Lakes region in upstate New York has many up-and-coming wineries, as does the Willamette Valley in Oregon. And you could pair a visit to some of the wineries in the Willamette Valley with a girls’ trip to Portland.

Live It Up in the Windy City

Chicago’s another great destination to consider – as long as you and your friends don't mind chilly temperatures. The city offers a broad menu of things to do – from museum visits to shopping to comedy clubs.

A girls’ weekend here could include taking silly photos on The Ledge at the Willis Tower Skydeck, shopping along The Magnificent Mile, browsing the collection at The Art Institute of Chicago, and laughing through live improv comedy at The Second City

Head West, Ladies!

Don't discount the American Southwest when it comes to planning a trip with the girls. There are many smaller cities in this part of the country that would be perfect for Galentine's Day.

You could go to northern New Mexico and shop the quirky art galleries in Santa Fe. Or pamper yourselves at a spa in Red Rock Country, Sedona, Arizona.

Whatever your plans for Galentine's Day, remember that it's less about where you go and what you do, and more about having a great time with your best gal pals. Have you ever been on a trip with just your girlfriends? Where else would you recommend for a Galentine's Day Getaway?
