Our first 3 months to end 2017 covered the western side of South America, including Colombia, Peru, Chile & Argentina! In Colombia, we galloped on horses through the jungle, relaxed on the biggest hammock in all of South America, stood underneath the world’s tallest palm trees in the Cócora Valley & toured coffee farms in the world famous “Zona Cafetera”. Colombia was an extremely budget friendly experience with welcoming people who are seeing a spike in tourism. Arriving next in Peru we had our best food experience in Lima, tasting their Chifa fusion (Peruvian & Japanese) and the BEST CEVICHE in the world! The rest of the country provided us with unique opportunities like riding dune buggies in Paracas National Reserve, sandboarding the dunes of Huacachina and riding horse through the Sacred Valley. Not lacking in history, we visited countless Inca ruins, including the great Machu Picchu discovered just over 100 years ago. Chile, the narrowest country in the continent, showed us what life on Mars would be like & let us float in a crystal blue salt lagoon in their Atacama Desert. Moving south to Pucon we whitewater rafted on an extreme river & hiked to the crater of the most active Volcano in all of South America! Further south in a remote area of Puerto Rio Tranquilo we visited over 55,00 tons of natural marble caves. Chile is impressive to say the least, providing endless outdoor adventure. Lastly we touched down in Argentina, the land of Malbec wine & futbol. But it is so much more than that! We visited the vineyards in Mendoza, learned to Tango in Buenos Aires & enjoyed the best steaks the country has to offer. Bariloche provided the most beautiful scenery on this large continent and someone found our lost iPhone 7 and returned it to us!! Talk about great people. For adventure, we headed down to the Patagonia one of the only places where you can hike on a glacier and enjoy a glass of whisky with real glacier ice! At El Chalten we trekked over 15 miles in one day to see Mount Fitzroy, the same one you see on the Patagonia clothing company’s logo! Needless to say not only was this 3 month adventure our favorite of 2017 but our experience of a lifetime so far. Sharing this story with the Barclays Community reminds us of how much we have done and just how lucky we are! We welcome you to follow our travel page on IG @themegamooners Cheers!
