After a memorable day out on the water with a whale watching/snorkeling cruise, we returned in time to our resort to witness a spectacular sunset from our lanai. Eventually I went and took a dip in the refreshing waters of Kaanapali Beach to enjoy the sunset from there as well, but before I knew it, I noticed tons of people lining up along the shoreline while in the water. Sure enough, more whale sightings literally right off the coast! I quickly swam ashore, grabbed my cameras and snapped some more pictures. This may have been the closest I had gotten to a whale yet. What a sight!
Heard it's a really good show but very pricey at ~$115 per person. There are other luaus you can see elsewhere for far cheaper or even free (Lahaina Cannery Mall)
Old Lahaina Luau is an alternative to the expensive luau hosted at the Hyatt Regency.
Stayed 8 nights at this resort on Kaanapali Beach. Loved the pool area.
Points of interest
Black Rock Beach
Excellent snorkeling beach on the north end of Kaanapali beach.
Was taking a dip in the waters before noticing some whales whaling by!
Lahaina Civic Center
The Lahaina Civic Center is conveniently located between Lahaina and the Kaanapali resorts.
Pretty rocky point on the south end of Kaanapali Beach.
Hawaiian cemetery immediately flanking Hanakaoo Beach Park on the south end of the Hyatt resort.
Whalers Village contains a number of high-end boutique shops for those with lots of money to blow.
Golfed 9 holes here on the morning of the day of our snorkel/whale watch cruise
