Ever wanted to drive a golf cart around a beautiful island with reckless abandon? Isla Mujeres is the place to go! We took a public bus from our resort up to the ferry dock just north of Cancun's hotel zone. Once on the ferry (bring a hat and sunglasses if you sit on the top deck), it takes about half an hour to pull into the island's main dock. We had the full day to explore, and promptly rented a golf cart to explore the island. If you go to Isla Mujeres, and don't rent a golf cart, you're probably doing it wrong...

We drove a full circle around the island, pulling over anywhere that caught or eye - the ruins, the turtle hospital, some sandwiches, an ice cream, and the beautiful Playa Norte.

Transportation
Juárez
Puerto Juarez! That's where we caught the ferry from. Significantly cheaper than taking the ferry from the hotel zone in Cancun (but also harder to find.
Ultramar
We took the Ultramar ferry from Cancun! (I think there are others, but I'm not sure.) If you want to save some pesos and have a better story to tell, take the local bus up to Puerto Juarez, and take the ferry from there.
Ferry Isla Mujeres-Pta. Sam
You have to take a ferry to the island. After all, it is an island... The ferry will drop you off right at the dock in the center of town.
Points of interest
Punta Sur
Punta Sur is the most eastern point of Mexico. The ruins were underwhelming, but it's worth a stop!
Tortugranja
This is the turtle hospital I was talking about. Very cheap to enter, and it goes to a great cause! They had turtles of all ages, as well as an array of other sealife. Definitely worth a quick stop in the golf cart.
Playa Norte
Amazingly clear water and flat sand. Although it's a bit crowded, you can walk out very far, due to the shallow water.
Restaurants
Qubano
Awesome sandwiches and great owner! Given the current political situation in the US, we had a fantastic conversation with the owner (she happens to have been born and raised in Cuba).
Special activities
Garrafon Natural Reef Park
This is THE place to find seaglass. We collect it, and we filled our pockets and then some. The water is a bit choppy some days for real snorkeling (especially for weak swimmers), but the sea glass and coral on the beach made up for it. You can pay the day price, snorkel, enjoy una cerveza on the beach, and then hop back in the golf cart!
