US National Arboretum is located just outside Washington DC, on MD Route 50 between Washington and Annapolis. The spring is the season of azaleas, dogwoods, magnolias and some camellias. I was impressed by azalea collections the most. It was the peak azalea blossom season with thousands of colorful azaleas. The camellia collections near Asian collections was really worth visiting, especially when I found three different colored flowers from a single plant. As the signs showed in the arboretum everywhere, the spring was also the mating and feeding season of bald eagles. There was a live cam somewhere above a nest of two adult eagles feeding two young chicks. The activities of those precious birds were observed 24/7 on a large screen in the Administration Building, which greatly encouraged my husband to open his wallet especially after the new White House Administration’s decisions to cut budgets of national parks and natural conservation.
