So we found out that this area is touted by the state of Colorado as the best ATV area in the State. It was evident that the most popular things that people do here are ATV and dirt biking. Taylor Park is the area where Tincup is located. We found a place to stay over an hour away, a really awesome RV park in Almont, Colorado that has cabins too. The view is stunning. Its only 31 miles but it took us over an hour to get there through the beautiful mountain passes. We made sure to get enough gas in Almont. We ate at the Pizza Inn in Gunnison before leaving with a full stomach full of Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and their legendary chicken and spuds. We spent several days tooling around Avon, Colorado. We ate at several places and tried to make them different foods. The first place was the Sherpa Café. Awesome Tibetan and Nepalese food. The lentil soup was amazing and the Tibetan noodles. The vegetable samosas and dip were outstanding. Got our coffee, scones and pesto wraps at Mochas in Avon for the trek back across the mountains to Tincup. We saw many ATV riders not he main streets. They all looked like novices. I'm sure the seasoned riders were in the mountains.
There is hiking and fishing and the road to get there is extremely steep. It's closed in the winter. You can also get to this area by taking Highway 50.
There were great exhibits for the kids to see from the areas many awesome points of history
Place was so bright and cheery. A decent breakfast. Liked the pool and fitness center and jacuzzi. Waffles and strawberries. The views were beautiful. We had a microwave and refrigerator.
This place had great views of the distant mountains and the price was affordable Nice amenities
Points of interest
We took the South Rim 7 mile drive from Tomichi Point to High. There were many overlooks
This is in Avon. We spent several days tooling around this area. The lentil soup was amazing and the Tibetan noodles. The vegetable samosas and dip were outstanding.
Actually the name of the place is Pizza Inn if I remember correctly.
I of course need my coffee everyday and maybe twice a day. Mochas was nice and friendly and I ordered my coffee a scone and pesto wraps for the trek across the pass back to Tincup.
Nice place for a vegan to stop. We stopped for their famous vegan smoothie
This is where we went for the best fine foods options in town. Its at the Inn at Tomichi Village. Lots of variety. We ordered the coconut crusted mani and stuffed pork chops. It was so tasty.
Oak Flat Trail
This trail was steep and narrowing some places. It was about a 2 mile round trip.
East Portal Road
We drove to the Gunnison River by taking the East Portal Road. It took us to the Curecanti National Recreation Area. We had a picnic here and watched some fishermen.
Rim Rock Trail
This was an amazing trail. Pretty flat. Saw the Gunnison river several times and awesome views of the sheer walls of the canyon.
