During our travels back and forth form the Tincup area we spent quite a few days in the Gunnison County vicinity bit south west of Tincup. One of our favorite things to do is to camp. We had already spent time at a campground and decided to do the forest. We went to Morrow Point Pine Creek Trail and hiked down the 225 steps to the canyon. Then we hiked the 2 mile trail along the river to Marrow Point Reservoir. The hardest part was hiking back cup the trail and climbing those steps. We were starving and drove to Almont to eat at Three Rivers Smokehouse. We also spent some time at the Blue Mesa the next day. When a storm came in the Blue Mesa got rough.
Culture and experiences
We happened upon this farm in a tiny little town of Austin. Its over 100 years old. We stayed in one of the historic cabins and we had to listen for the dinner bell to go to the lodge to the big farm table for our meals. So unique! We had lamb and some of their fresh raised veggies. I highly recommend it
This is the cutest little victorian town. We did some hiking and biking here too
We could see this beautiful reservoir as we drove up through Hotchkiss and on to the farm
Blue Mesa lake is only 8 miles from the KOA in the area
Points of interest
Theis tunnel was built in 1880. Its cuts right through the continental divide. The elevation was over 11,00 ft. I got winded right away.
Morrow Point Dam
This area is so huge and so many sheer walls and beautiful scenery
We drove through Ohio City and since I am from Ohio I was hoping it would be great. But there wasn't much there. A ranch outside of town.
Blue Mesa Reservoir
This place is HUGE Its the largest lake in Colorado. There is fishing and boating but we just hiked.
Felt like a hippie again here. Homemade pizzas, fresh ingredients. My salad was HUGE!
We sat outside. Quick service. The chicken spring rolls and wraps were good!
Oh boy!!! Such wonderful ribs for such a small little town. We ate here after we stayed at the farm.
We ate snack foods. Yummy and fattening. The cheesy fry bowl was delicious and then I had chocolate chip cookie with cinnamon ice cream. The best!!!
We decided not to golf.It was pretty windy. But we did eat at the Dos Rios Bar and Grill.
Excellent for atving and exploring the amazing wildness of Colorado
