I am heading to Italy next week, and will spend a couple of days in Venice with a group of 8 I'm leading. I've never been out to Murano, and I'm thinking of taking the Vaporetto out there to walk around the glass shops a bit. Has anyone been there recently on your own without a tour, and seen any particular glass shops that were walk-in friendly and perhaps have a glass blowing demonstration? From what I've read, it's not that easy to find just showing up and walking around without a tour or plan. Thoughts? Grazie!
We did it 3 years ago, just took the vaporetto out and back (although be careful which one you choose, some hit a lot of stops before you get back to Venice proper, they have a map before you get on). All of the shops were friendly, and several had demonstrations going on, but of course there was only the two of us. Would not think it would make a difference though. It was lovely town and easy to do on ones own.
