Thanks a million for the detailed info. I really like that design of the closures on the one you have, I've got 2 months until our next trip so plenty of time to go on a mission to find some similar, that's a great idea. I've long been uneasy about the hotel safes, but have never really researched alternatives or thought about these bags as anything but something to wear to thwart street thieves/pickpockets. Great idea and tip!

Everyone seems to have added so much great information! I will add to keep in mind that a lot of places are closed on Sundays in Europe, so getting to a pharmacy if you have a minor medical need on a Sunday can be an issue and first aid items are not always carried in a grocery store (again, if you can find one open on a Sunday). Some places have a designated apothecary that is open for an area on Sundays to help meet the needs of a minor occurance. Just ask around if you need something or bring a small kit with your on your travels with all of your basic needs.
