I live in MN and am gearing up for another cold winter. I have taken time off from work in February and want to go somewhere warm. My husband really would like to try an all-inclusive resort as we have never done this before. Would like quality, but good value too.
Would love to hear recommendations!
I tend to do a cruise in a warm part of the world. NCL usually provides good value but I wouldnt say its known for their quality. Its not bad but its on the lower end of the cruise line spectrum.
We’ve never done an all inclusive resort, but we have been on numerous cruises, five of which were to the Caribbean (three Western and two Eastern. No Southern yet). You can escape the cold weather on a Caribbean cruise. We sail exclusively on Royal Caribbean so I cannot offer any advice on other cruise lines (we went once on Carnival and never again). I have heard good things about all inclusive resorts but you need to make sure you choose the right one. With the issues in Punta Cana, D.R. I think I would steer clear of there for awhile. A friend of ours went to Sandals in the Bahamas and had a great time. I’m sure there are other members of this community that can offer advice as well.
happy planning and travels. Make sure you share some pictures and short stories about your trip.
We are no fans of large resorts and tend to avoid all-inclusive ones anyway as local communities around the resort won’t benefit from this type of tourism other than some jobs at the resort.
We made an exception to the rule and stayed at the “El Conquistador Resort & Spa” in Puerto Rico. The resort is build on a steep hill, allowing views of the ocean from several points of the resort. Has a private island with a picturesque sand beach (free boat shuttle), several restaurants on different levels, a golf course, a marina, casino, shows, you name it. Was reasonably priced compared to other resorts in the Caribbean. Was a great getaway for a few days.
We booked an all-inclusive resort for five days this December to celebrate our 10th anniversary. I have used HHonors points to book Hilton Rose Hall in Montego Bay Jamaica. Looks good, but if anyone of you has first-hand knowledge, please share.
Two years ago, we went to the Now Jade all inclusive in Puerto Moreles for just 5 days for a wedding. It is about a 40 minute ride from the Cancun airport.
Pros: Fabulous food (huge buffets with everything you could imagine), spacious, beautifully landscaped grounds, large rooms with balconies, specialty restaurants, poolside bars and more restaurants, great espresso shop, ice cream shop, several bars, several gift shops, fridge in room stocked with soft drinks & beer, plenty of watersports activities, clean, safe.
Cons: Far drive into Cancun, drinks seemed watered down.
