Absolutely stunning. I have traveled to many places and this is definitely one of the best of the best. We have been to different areas in Costa Rica but this was one of our favorite stops.
Blue River resort lies high in the mountains about 1-1/2 hours northeast of Liberia. The last hour is mainly gravel roads. Sometimes a little bumpy but not to bad. We had been staying over on Flamingo Beach and spent the last few days at Blue River Resort. The drive up was beautiful, you could see the volcano in the background. The resort is fairly new and was very beautiful. We stayed in a rustic cabin that was beautiful inside and out. There was a spa on property but we opted to take our own lava mud baths. I can not describe the feeling after doing this. There were several natural mineral springs. each had different concentrations of minerals and different temperatures from the volcano water. There was also a fresh water pool where you could cool down. The restaurant was amazing. Great food. If you wanted something special that was not on the menu all you had to do was ask and it would be there for the next day. There was also a beautiful flower garden that my wife fell in love with. There were many hummingbirds, the flowers were stunning, butterfly house and best of all my wife got to hold a Tucan that was being rehabilitated. The price was very reasonable considering all the things that were there. We took a hike with Warren up to the waterfall and it was so breathtaking. While we were walking Warren he told us about different things. I would maybe take the horses if we go back. The river below the resort was a beautiful sapphire blue. Took a river cruise and had monkeys come onto and into the boat. It was great but river was muddy. Make sure you take plenty of bananas to feed the monkeys. We give this place a 7 out of 5 stars. We have aso been to other areas of Costa Rica.

About travel stats

We've created this module to compare travel stats between your current city and the town or city featured in the story you're viewing. You can see comparisons to other destinations by using the edit link. You cannot edit the main destination of the story since it acts as the benchmark for the comparison.

Where does the data come from?

The module is powered by Numbeo.com, a site that collects user-reported data on the cost of living in places all over the world.

Since Numbeo does not have cost comparison data for all cities, they use destinations as far away as 80 kilometers. Therefore, your city data may not be available, but a city with a similar geographic location will be used.

What is the Travel category

The Travel category is an index calculated from travel related costs based on Numbeo statistics and purchase data from Barclaycard US travelers.
